Welcome to Burns Home Performance. Our goal is to give you control of your home’s environment. The way to accomplish this by treating your house as a system. We don’t just install bigger units because there is a comfort issue. We test your home and provide solutions to your indoor air quality and comfort problems. Testing is the only way to prove if your home, and it’s systems, are working as they should. We offer testing on existing and new homes. Many areas do not require the duct and envelope testing that is prescribed in the national model building codes. That means many new homes are deficient of the ventilation that is essential for maintaining a healthy indoor environment. View our services below to see the kinds of tests we offer. We offer these tests for homes and businesses.

HVAC Design & Airflow Testing
Heating and cooling systems are rarely designed or tested when they are initially installed. Proper design and installation are essential for comfort, equipment longevity, and efficiency. BHP offers heating and cooling design, air flow testing, heat load calculations, capacity analysis testing, and third party installation verifications.
-
Construction Draw Inspections
BHP can perform code compliance and best practices inspections for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building codes for residential and commercial properties. Inspections can be performed at any time during a project. They protect you from possible hazards that may arise due to an installation error and ensure your contractor is doing a quality job. Inspections are required for most types of projects but are often not performed. The model codes are the minimum standard you should expect from your contractor.

Blower Door Testing
The IRC requires blower door testing of new homes, but many areas don't enforce the requirement. A blower door test is a requirement to proper unit sizing. Without it, unit sizing is only a guess. Blower door testing is the only way to know if your new or existing home is too tight and in need of ventilation air, or too leaky and wasting energy. A well sealed home with a properly designed ventilation system is the only way to know your home is as healthy and energy efficient as possible.
-
Duct Testing & Sealing
Duct systems often leak in excess of 20%. Duct leakage contributes to higher dust levels in the home, higher utility bills, and longer equipment run times. Leaky ducts also reduce air quality because the leaks can pull air from attics or crawl spaces. Having your ducts sealed is a great way to improve your indoor air quality and overall efficiency of your heating and cooling system.
-
Energy Audit
A thorough energy audit can help you identify opportunities for improvement. BHP can help you prioritize which upgrades should be performed based on their return on investment and other benefits each item provides. The ROI on air sealing and insulation is usually less than 5 years. On the other hand, the ROI for windows is usually decades.
-
Air Sealing
Air sealing is crucial to any home performance plan. Air sealing provides health and environmental savings by reducing wasted energy. Air sealing reduces contaminant pathways between your attic and/or crawlspace and your home. Air sealing can provide a faster return on investment than other home improvement projects, such as new windows or HVAC upgrades.
